چکیده

The sequence in which two sma& spatially unresolved spots of light are Rashed in the periphery of the visual field can be determined by means of a “fine-grain” movement illusion. The illusion can be produced not only by rod-rod and by cone-cone stimulation. but also by rod-cone stimulation. Dynamics of the illusion are obtained by sequence-discrimination experiments for each of these three stimulus conditions. Kqv Wor&--rod-cone interaction; movement illusion.

The fluttering-heart illusion: a new hypothesis.

The fluttering-heart illusion is a perceived lagging behind of a colour target on a background of a different colour when the two are oscillated together. It has been proposed that the illusion is caused by a differential in the perceptual latencies of different colours (Helmholtz 1867/1962), a differential in rod-cone latencies (von Kries 1896) and rod-cone interactions (von Grünau 1975, 1976 ...

Effect of rod-cone interactions on mesopic visual performance mediated by chromatic and luminance pathways.

We studied the effect of rod-cone interactions on mesopic visual reaction time (RT). Rod and cone photoreceptor excitations were independently controlled using a four-primary photostimulator. It was observed that (1) lateral rod-cone interactions increase the cone-mediated RTs; (2) the rod-cone interactions are strongest when rod sensitivity is maximal in a dark surround, but weaker with increa...

A simple retinal mechanism contributes to perceptual interactions between rod- and cone-mediated responses in primates

Visual perception across a broad range of light levels is shaped by interactions between rod- and cone-mediated signals. Because responses of retinal ganglion cells, the output cells of the retina, depend on signals from both rod and cone photoreceptors, interactions occurring in retinal circuits provide an opportunity to link the mechanistic operation of parallel pathways and perception. Here ...

Retinal morphology and retinomotor response in Caspian kutum (Rutilus frisii subsp. kutum)

In this study, the morphology and organization of the retina of Caspian kutum and fish response to ambient light as retinomotor reaction was investigated. The Rutilus frisii subsp. kutum is an anadromous fish and important native fish specimen of Caspian Sea. The specimens were obtained from Shahid Ansari Teleost Reproduction and Culture center (Guilan province, Iran). For light and dark adapta...

The fine-grain movement illusion: a perceptual probe of neuronal connectivity in the human visual system.

In the visual periphery, brief presentation of two very closely spaced luminous point stimuli, in rapid sequence. causes the illusory impression that a single dot moves over a path of considerable extent. The interactions obtainable between two illusions near one another are described for various configurations of the inducing stimuli. Only when such illusions are codirectional are they found n...
